Montreal-based
Malajube, fronted by
Julien Mineau (guitar, vocals) and featuring keyboardist Thomas Augustin,
began with nondescript Brit-pop on
Le Compte Complet (Dare To Care, 2004), but
Trompe-L'oeil (Dare To Care, 2006) already featured more elaborate
compositions
(Etienne d'Aout, La Monogamie, Le Crabe)
and at least one good rocker
(Ton Plat Favori) besides the catchy single Montreal -40C, but they still sounded like a summary of contemporary
trends that did not excel at any one of them.
Labirynthes (Dare To Care, 2009) retreated into mediocre Brit-pop
(Ursuline).
