Toe, a Japanese quartet, delivered sophisticated prog-rock on For Long Tomorrow (White Noise, 2009): an atonal guitar a` la Arto Lindsay embellishes Flute Shoushitsu Point I, After Image boasts a lyrical counterpoint, quasi flamenco lines and random vocals; the Afro-Brazilian percussive frenzy of Esoteric is enhanced with free-jazz horns in Our Next Movement; Two Moons spills over into Leo Kottke-esque country impressionism; Goodbye is an oneiric and chaotic lullaby that injects emotion into post-rock; and Long Tomorrow achieves an unlikely marriage of the oneiric and the neurotic.
