Italian hip-hop group Uochi Toki debuted with
Vocapatch (Burp, 2003), containing more than 30 songs. The core ones are
combinations of lo-fi beats and absurdist psychotic rapping
(Balena, Sangue,
Televisore),
occasionally hijacked by eerily alien production (Zero Tagliato);
but in between these the album drops breathless hardcore miniatures,
and dadaistic electronic instrumentals,
which are the band's two alter egos.
The music feels less poignant when it tries to be more poignant (Cubo).
Another delight is represented by two grotesque post-industrial instrumental ballets: Galletto Morto Sdraiato and Cazzuola.
Uochi Toki (2004) further fragmented and diluted their rapping art, and is mostly devoted to their electronic Dada alter ego. It contains more than 80 brief vignettes,
some only a few seconds long. However the six-minute 7
(sandwiched between a 13-second track and a 3-second track) ranks as one of
their best produced raps thanks to a background of post-industrial radioactive miasma.
Laze Biose (2006) came as a shock: "only" 13 songs and two of them are
nine-minute long. Alas, neither Le Citta` nor Le Armi justify their duration, and vastly overstay their welcome.
The 12-song Libro Audio (La Tempesta, 2009) embraces a
more violent noise but insists on
nonsensical lyrics. This time the duration is not a problem:
the 10-minute L'Osservatore / L'Osservatore 1 leverages well the
chaotic drumming and the rude electronic effects as well as its ghostly ending.
Il Ladro even boasts a spiraling keyboard melody.
Having mastered the format, they indulged in lengthy songs on
Cuore Amore Errore Disintegrazione (2010). A
sitar solo opens the seven-minute Mi Sveglio da Straniero in un Luogo mai Visto Prima Tuttavia.
The 13-minute Gettandomi in Ambigue Immedesimazioni non Richieste ma Richieste slides over a rugged jazz soundscape (the album's highlight and possibly their all-time zenith).
The eight-minute Dando Origine al piu` Incomprensibile dei Mali is dynamited by booming and drilling industrial noise.
The rapping remains rather plain throughout and the lyrics are hardly inspirational but a more neurotic impetus embellishes the eight-minute No sto Sbagliando in Qualcosa.
Idioti (2012) was a much more subdued work.
Macchina da Guerra (2013) contains two lengthy untitled pieces.
The first one contains intermezzos of distorted industrial and an apocalyptic
ending worthy of their best moments.
After
Cystema Solari (2014), which was a collaboration with Nadja (Aidan Baker),
and the double-disc Il Limite Valicabile (2015),
they returned to the format of Cuore Amore of lengthy
La Magia Raccontata da una Macchina (2019), but with less
"machine magic" (to steal from its title) despite the
22-minute Il Conflitto tra Maghi, Draghi e Manticore, the
13-minute L'Alchimista and the
18-minute Gli Altromanti.
After the transitional Malaeducaty (2019), the more intense
Cambiare Idea (2021) contains the lengthy
Guazzabuglio 2036,
Sherpa 2019
and Sei ancora troppo legato alla forma canzone 2021.
