Xela (Manchester-based digital musician John Twells) debuted with the
beat-oriented and glitch-infested For Frosty Mornings And Summer Nights (Neo Ouija, 2003 - Type, 2007)
and Tangled Wool (2004).
His ambient aural collages got
progressively darker and gloomier.
The Dead Sea (Type, 2006) was virtually a tribute to Italian horror soundtracks of the 1970s,
and the four-movement requiem In Bocca Al Lupo (Type, 2008) represented
the nadir of his mood.
The Illuminated (Digitalis, 2008) contains two 20-minute pieces of
dark ambient music:
Black Scripture and Gilted Rose.
Heirs Of The Fire (2009) documented a live performance.
