Los Angeles' black transgender vocalist and multi-disciplinary artist Star Amerasu, originally a member of the collective of transgender djs founded by Jasmine Infiniti in Oakland called New World Dysorder, debuted as Ah-mer-ah-su with two EPs of digital neosoul: Eclipsing (2016), with the hypnotic plantation blues set to industrial beats Boom Crash Bang Bang and the catchy ditty Little Bird, and Rebecca (2017), on which she further deconstructed blues chants into the dreamy soundscapes of Klonopin and Space. The EPs were promising but Star (Dero Arcade, 2018), co-produced with Vice Cooler, contains mostly filler. The intricate vocal harmonies of On stand out. She takes chances with the convoluted beat 7-15-13 and the ecstatic lament Stale Water, but then indulges in the straightforward disco-music of Heartbreaker and Powerful.

Incandescent Body (2019) has orchestral versions of her songs. The EP Hopefully Limitless (2021), produced again by Vice Cooler, contains both the vulnerable and introverted dirge Temperamental and more upbeat dance numbers like We Got it All, but best is perhaps the eccentric and polyrhythmic Tomorrow. She also released a frenzied cover of Frank Ocean's Thinkin bout You (2022).
