The Cults, hailing from New York,
harked back to the naive girl-groups of the 1960s on
Cults (In the Name Of, 2011), thanks to
retro boy-girl harmonies (by guitarist Brian Oblivion and vocalist Madeline Follin), disco beats and vintage organs.
The Caribbean-tinged Go Outside,
the sprightly Abducted
and Bumper are captivating for a few seconds,
but mostly the collection is the ultimate tedious dejavu.
By comparison,
the Go-Go's were Wagner.
