Georgia-raised but New York-based rapper
Donald "Childish Gambino" Glover, also a successful television and cinema actor,
released the mixtapes Sick Boi (2008),
Poindexter (2009),
I Am Just a Rapper (2010), I Am Just A Rapper 2 (2010) and
Culdesac (2010) as his acting career was taking off.
After the EP (2011) came his official debut album
Camp (2011), produced by Ludwig Goransson and credited to Childish Gambino.
After the mixtape Royalty (2012), came second album
Because the Internet (2013), a much more ambitious concept, also produced by Goransson, coupled with
a 72-page screenplay, and containing the singles 3005 and Heartbeat as well as more creative songs like
Flight of The Navigator and Telegraph Ave.
The hyper-prolific rapper also released the
mixtape STN MTN (2013), the EP Kauai (2013) and the single Sober (2013) before devoting himself to his acting career.
He returned to music with another concept album Awaken My Love (2016), this time dedicated to his son, containing the single Redbone as well as Me and Your Mama, an album on which he mostly sang, not rapped, and an
album arranged in a variety of styles.
The single This Is America (2018), cowritten with
Young Thug, was his first number-one hit.
