Florida's emo-punk combo Home is Where, fronted by shouter
Brandon MacDonald, debuted with the six-song mini-album I Became Birds (2021).
The first two songs feature unusual instruments:
a horn fanfare derails
L Ron Hubbard Was Way Cool,
and a harmonica opens the
catchy Long Distance Conjoined Twins and leads its closing square dance.
The "emo" factor shows up in the next three songs.
The dejected bedroom-pop Sewn Together From the Membrane of the Great Sea Cucumber explodes halfway in classic screamo fashion.
The visceral post-hardcore rant of The Scientific Classification of Sting Rays and the drunk punk singalong Assisted Harakiri represent the violent noisy peak of the album.
