Chicago’s
rapper and singer
Durk "Lil Durk" Banks, founder of the Only the Family collective, became a local star with the series of cutting-edge mixtapes titled Signed to the Streets (2013-14)
and with the much more traditional and radio-friendly singles
My Beyonce'
and
Like Me, off his debut album
Remember My Name (2015), which also contains Lord Don't Make Me Do It.
He then flooded the soul-rap scene with countless mixtapes and with the albums
Lil Durk 2X (2016),
Signed to the Streets 3 (2018),
and Love Songs 4 the Streets 2 (2019), possibly his worst.
Just Cause Y'all Waited 2 (2020) contains the new hit
3 Headed Goat.
His blend of trap beats and soul crooning became so formulaic that it was
difficult to distinguish the song of
The Voice of the Heroes (2020).
The 17-song 7220 (2022), produced by a cast of over 20 producers,
had one decent song, Piss me Off, and then what sounded like 16 versions of the same boring song.
