New York-based Jean "DJ Preservation" Daval was the brain behind hip-hop classics such as
Mos Def's The Ecstatic (2009)
and Billy Woods' Aethiopes (2022).
His first solo album, Old Numbers (2013), was negligible but
Days with Dr Yen Lo (2015), a collaboration with Ka,
and his second solo Eastern Medicine Western Illness (2020) were
demonstrations of his elegant and creative style.
