Chicago's Smith Westerns were the 1000th nostalgic band to rediscover the
sprightly bubblegum pop of the 1960s.
Smith Westerns (HoZac, 2009), heavily influenced by T.Rex (Girl in Love) and occasionally virulent like in the garage-rock of the 1960s (My Heart).
Dye It Blonde (Fat Possum, 2011), a much more professional effort,
caused sensation but there was even less that
did not simply mock the 1960s. Ranging from imitations of
the most moronic Beatles (Weekend) to
juvenile anthems a` la Mott The Hoople
(All Die Young), the collection avoided mediocrity only in the
summery rave-up a` la Katrina And The Waves of Dance Away.
They disbanded after
the single Varsity and the album
Soft Will (Mom+Pop, 2013).
They would have been a minor band in the "Paisley Underground" of Los Angeles in the 1980s.
