Italian band
Giardini di Miro` assembled an intriguing combination of hypnotic instrumental textures, deconstructed melodies, dilated psychedelic improvisation, and melodramatic soft-loud glacial/vibrant dynamics (a` la Godspeed You Black Emperor and
Mogwai).
The EPs Giardini di Miro` (1998) and Iceberg (1999), later
collected on Hits For Broken Hearts and Asses (2nd, 2004),
preceded the album
Rise and Fall of Academic Drifting (Homesleep, 2001), a milestone of Italian post-rock, a work of calm melancholy troubled by sudden emotional outbursts.
A New Start combines dejected rhythm and melancholy trumpet for maximum pathos.
The waltzing eight-minute The Beauty Tape Rider slowly disintegrates and eventually erupts into a massive guitar distortion.
The bassoon-driven post-jazz lullaby Pearl Harbor morphs into a syncopated shoegazing jam.
The ten-minute Rise and Fall of Academic Drifting is a lake of delicate sparkling chords, their crowning achievement.
The romantic trumpet-driven meditation Penguin Serenade is a bit repetitive and the two songs with vocals are unnecessary detours.
The Academic Rise of Falling Drifters (2002) is a remix album.
Despite the increased melodic effort and the addition of violin and clarinet,
neither Punk Not Diet (Homesleep, 2003), containing
the eight-minute Connect the Machine to the Lips Tower and the seven-minute When You Were a Postcard,
nor Dividing Opinions (2007), with the eight-minute Petit Treason, were as emotionally gripping as the first album.
Il Fuoco (2009) was composed as the soundtrack for
Giovanni Pastrone's
silent movie of 1915, and
Rapsodia Satanica (2014) was the soundtrack for
another silent movie, directed by Nino Oxilia in 1917.
Later albums include:
Good Luck (2012), with the eight-minute Flat Heart Society,
and
Different Times (2018).

The Academic Rise of Falling Drifters (2002) è solo un album di remix.
