Lalo Schifrin (Argentina, 1932) was a jazz composer.
His main composition was
Jazz Suite on the Mass Texts (1965)
He also composed Gillespiana (1958) and The New Continent (1962) for Dizzy Gillespie. He composed part of Cal Tjader's Several Shades of Jade (1963) and arranged it. Jazz Suite on the Mass Texts (1965) was a collaboration with Paul Horn The Dissection and Reconstruction of Music from the Past as Performed by the Inmates of Lalo Schifrin's Demented Ensemble as a Tribute to the Memory of the Marquis De Sade (1966) is a concept album about Sade. Rock Requiem (1971) for large jazz ensemble was his attempt at classical-jazz-rock fusion.
Schifrin died in 2025.
