Mhysa, the musical alter-ego of black Philadelphia-based artist E. Jane, active in a variety of media such as the sculpture "I Wrote the Philosophy of the World on a Hand Mirror" (2015), the interactive installation "Alive Not Dead Yet" (2016), the digital prints on silk "Womanish" (2016-2017) and the multimedia show "Lavendra" (2015-2017) with 28 music videos of famous "black divas” of the 1990s, got started in music with the dance-music of Scraaatch, her duo with producer Lawd Knows. Mhysa the queer black singer-songwriter was born with the EP Hivemind (2016).

Fantasii (Halcyon Veil, 2017) spans a broad spectrum of styles, from the drifting a-cappella wordless vocals of Glory be Black to the even more haunting soundscape of Siren Song. She drowns neosoul and hip-hop stereotypes in oneiric electronica and slowly whispered lyrics to obtain the claustrophobic kammerspiel Bb. The more conventional rap Strobe and ballad Spectrum (which soounds like a deliberately unfinished hip-hop production) prove that some day she could be a star, a black diva. Maybe that would be her ultimate art installation.

Nevaeh (2020), however, is devoid of interesting moments.
